Road Haulage Association The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (UK)

Clearstone, the UK’s leading LGV training and recruitment provider, together with The Daily Mirror, are proud to launch the UK’s first national competition to celebrate the skills and capabilities of commercial LGV drivers across the nation.

The commercial driving industry is still struggling in terms of recruitment, hence the massive labour shortage and the need for large businesses to source drivers from the continent. This is largely due to an image problem, however many organizations are now making significant steps in changing the face of the industry and working hard to widen its appeal. The Driver of the Year competition is designed to promote the industry and its people in the light that they deserve and encourage more people into it in order ensure its survival. Clearstone understand the industry and have been involved in a great deal of work in pioneering new initiatives, raising standards and changing people’s mindset, hence the very ethos of this competition.

Our drivers really are the unsung heroes of British industry. Year on year, they work extremely hard, with very little recognition, in ensuring that our bread is on our shelves, our medicines are in our hospitals and our fuel is around the corner in our forecourts. It’s time we all took a step back to recognize those who work day and night, 365 days a year, in keeping our country ticking – they are the very backbone of our infrastructure, critical to the British public and the lifeblood of our industries. Now, for the first time on a national scale, Britain has the chance to recognize and celebrate the very best of these heroes of
the road!
